2018 AUDI SQ5 TECHNIK

MY CURRENT DAILY DRIVER AND WINTER WARWAGON
My 2014 SQ5 was as perfect a car as I could ever expect to own, but I made the mistake of taking the 2018 SQ5 for a couple of test drives, and I ended up falling under its spell. As pristine as my previous SQ5 was, there were a number of features on the new one that just sealed the deal for me such as the new adaptive air suspension and a new sport differential. The new torque vectoring rear diff can send nearly 100 percent of the power to one wheel. While the new generation isn't substantially more powerful, these suspension innovations enhance the handling, thus making it more of a complete performance SUV. I am excited about the specifications I chose, and I anticipate I will love this SQ5 just as much, if not more, than my previous one.

DAYTONA GREY PEARL

The original plan was to submit an Audi Exclusive colour order in Nardo Grey. The dealership wrote up the order, but when they submitted it, they were informed that the factory in Mexico wasn't yet tooled to fill custom colour orders. I was pretty disappointed. The best estimate they could give was first quarter of 2018, but that timing just didn't work for me. So, I went with Daytona Grey Pearl and, to be honest, I love it. It has incredible depth and it has a lot of life, if that makes sense. Nardo would have been awesome, though.

WHEELS & TIRES

My original plan was to go with the 20" wheels, but when it came down to it, I couldn't resist the 21's. Because they come fitted with Pirelli P-Zero summer performance tires, I had to spring for a second set. I chose the Sprint by TSW in a gun metal gloss finish. The 20x8.5 wheels are wrapped with the highly rated Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 non-studded winter tires. My plan is to use the Nokians for Spring, Winter and Fall, and reserve the 21's for the summer months. Both wheels look great on this SQ5.

ADVANCEMENTS

The second generation SQ5 features an impressive host of advancements and enhancements. You wouldn't know it from looking at it, but it is an entirely new vehicle from the ground up. The new engine is highly refined and the addition of an air suspension and sport differential enhance an already potent performance platform, and the addition of tech features such as the virtual cockpit and improved MMI system are welcomed upgrades from the first generation. I genuinely appreciate the level of engineering and design work that went into this car.
