Back in 2008, my wife and I returned to Canada after living overseas in New Zealand, Korea and Japan. She was driving a brand new Pontiac G8 GT and I was driving a 2006 Cadillac STS-V that I had imported from the States. We loved both cars, but we had forgotten how unforgiving winter driving conditions can be in Canada. My Cadillac never left the parking garage in our condo development and her G8, even equipped with Blizzak winter tires, just wasn't coping well with the winter roads. So, we decided to sell both cars and move to a luxury SUV with all-wheel-drive. After a month of research and test drives, we narrowed our choices down to the BMW X5 or the Audi Q7. A stunning Garnet Red Q7 found its way onto the local Audi dealership's lot so we took the plunge. We happily enjoyed driving that Q7, but when the 4 year/80k km warranty was set to expire we decided to let her go. We opted to downsize to the Q5 and it was about this time that Audi applied the S-treatment to the Q5. The more I researched the SQ5, the more smitten I became.
We originally ordered the SQ5 in Volcano Red Pearl, but changed our minds at the last minute. Instead, we opted for Estoril Blue and we never regretted that decision, as the blue was just spectacular. Audi discontinued the Estoril Blue the next year and introduced Sepang which was pretty nice as well. The SQ5 gave us more than we needed in the power department and proved the perfect fit for our family of three. Again, faced with the impending expiration of the factory warranty, the decision was made to let her go. We decided to stick with the SQ5 as the second generation was the perfect evolution of this vehicle in our eyes.
Immediately after going with the 2018 SQ5 we decided we would not find ourselves in the same warranty dilemma so we have added three more years to the factory warranty. This should enable us to own this vehicle for more than 3.95 years. The new SQ5 is the perfect evolution of the previous model and retains all the fun and excitement but introduces many innovations and advancements that make it an absolute pleasure to drive. I look forward to spoiling our 2018 SQ5 as I have with the previous Audis we have owned.
