The Tavin Garage
There are so many things that blow me away about this garage. The first being the gorgeous house it is attached to. I just love the modern aesethics of this home. Some modern home designs are cold and sterile, whereas this one, with the mix of finishing materials, is warm and inviting. I also marvel at the sheer size of the space. Fifty two feet in width is gigantic, but the Tavins have established a sense of intimacy through thoughtful design and equipment placement. It looks like the ideal place to pamper your ride. I'm very jealous of the sink setup, too. Thanks to Tanya and Nevin for letting me share their incredible garage with my readers.

What inspired you to create the garage you created?
We always wanted a clean and dialed in garage to store our cars and detailing supplies. It is the first place you see when you get home. We had a small 3 car garage in our old house that we started doing detailing in. It was barebones, just sheetrock and fire tape with bare concrete floors. We painted it and did epoxy floors to make it a little bit better. Shortly after, we had the opportunity to build a new house and this time we knew it was the chance to build the best garage we could. I took a lot of design cues from Matt Moreman's Obsessed Garage and Rick's Audi Double Garage. I loved the modular floors because we get so much rain in Oregon, its great to have a non-slip surface and all the dirt just falls underneath. Also epoxy wasn't as long lasting, and I could move the floors if I were to move houses again.

What do you love about your garage?
Originally the new house's floor plan had a 3 car garage, but we extended it to a 4 car. The size is now approximately 53' x 22'. The entire garage was finished with sheetrock and paint, we didn't have them do anything to the floors since we were going to put in Swisstrax. There are a total of 8 LED light fixtures in the garage right now.
We had two water bibs put inside the garage, one for cold water to supply the pressure washer, the other one hot/cold to supply the garden hose. This way we don't have to winterize the bibs in winter and we can wash the cars year round in the garage. Another great addition was the stationary pressure washer setup, its there ready to go anytime. I have a 50 foot hose on a reel and everything is hooked up already. We also added a utility sink which was one of the best decisions! It's a great place to wash out our pads and floor mats.
For storage, we went to Newage Bold 3.0 cabinets because we wanted most of the storage to be enclosed. We get a lot of pollen in Spring/Summer, so enclosed cabinets were top on our list. They have been great so far, although next time I would probably go with the Pro line for the thicker metal. On my other wall I did Gladiator Geartrack for my landscaping supplies. We also love the versatility of the gearwall, we can change the hooks/accessories to adjust to our needs. We also have a tire rack from tirerack.com that can hold our spare sets of wheels.

What future plans/dreams do you have for it?
First off, we would love to get rid of all the landscaping supplies inside the garage. It would be great to keep it as a tool/car/detailing supplies only area. We're currently finding an outdoor shed to house all the landscaping supplies outside. We're looking to add another workbench on the far left side of the garage so it would be a nice place to work on things and create some seating for people. Our friends seem to like to come hang out at our house and wash cars together.
Ideally I would also like to upgrade my pressure washer to a wall mounted one, such as the Comet Static pressure washer and get a 100 ft hose. A Quickjack would be a nice addition as well.

What advice do you have for anyone wishing to create their own dream garage?
Some things you just have to plan ahead and get it put in in the building stage. For our garage, we should have put in even more lighting, there are some darker areas in the garage right now. Do lots of research on cabinets, flooring, lighting and see what is the best for you! Also one small regret on my garage, I forgot it was facing west and so in summer I can't work in the garage in the afternoon because it gets so hot inside. So beware which side your garage is facing!
